Located right in the heart of the Pigeon Forge tourist district, the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg KOA is a conveniently located campground that offers spacious sites and a great location: right across the street from Dollywood theme park (ask when you check in for discount tickets) and minutes away from the the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  The campground has ample RV, Cabin, and tent sites to accomodate your needs. Many of the cabins and tent sites are located along the Pigeon River. There is a well stocked camp store that even sells beer.

Appearance:

The campground is well-maintained and manicured.  There are full-time maintenance and grounds staff that are actively working, as we saw them frequently during our 6 day visit.  Many of the sites are shaded on the outer loop, whereas the inner loop was not.  If you are traveling in a large RV do not count on having a shaded site.  There are 5 cabins located along the river, and deluxe sites with paved patios, patio furniture, and chimineas. There are a few primitive tent sites within 20 ft of the river.  It is nice to have a river view, although it is right in the heart of downtown, so the this view is along a commercial section of Pigeon Forge.

Activities/Attractions:

The location is very convenient to many downtown Pigeon Forge attractions.  There is even a trolley service that comes to the campground and can take you to the Dollywood theme park.  It is within walking distance to the popular Old Mill Restaurant.  We had lunch there during our stay and were impressed.  Take home some of the hush puppy or corn fritter mix from the general store, you will be glad you did.  There is a grocery store within walking distance which was very convenient for the week long stay.  It is also conveniently located at the end of the strip closest to the entance to the National Park.  (Stoplight 8)

There is a heated pool and a hot tub.  The laundry facility was nice and spacious.  A very nice amenity was the fitness center with  free weights, an elliptical, treadmill, and stationary bike.

Restrooms:

The restrooms were very clean (cleaned daily at noon and midnight) and modern with good sized showers and dressing areas.  We found the restrooms to be well stocked and cared for.  Some bath houses had private individual shower  rooms (a seperate locking door for each room).

Pet/Family Friendly:

Although there is a fenced in dog area, it is small in size and when we visited it did not have a gate (so the area was not enclosed completely).  Patriot Park is located adjacent to the outer loop to the campground. This is a nice park with a 3/4 mile walking track and  field approx. twice the size of a football field where there are  soccer and baseball fields, but also ample space to let the dogs run. There are several waste containers and waste bags provided.  Along the river you can buy feed for the ducks and walk to the Old Mill Restaurant and various shops.

The campground has a playground, basketball court, heated pool and hot tub, small video arcade, and paved roads for biking. There are also several family friendly attractions minutes from the campground including go-kart tracks, carousel rides, and another larger arcade. There is no shortage of activities for your kids to enjoy!
