This campground is part of the Hamilton County Park system in greater Cincinnati. Hamilton County Park System offers three scenic campgrounds: Miami Whitewater Forest, Steamboat Bend, and Winton Woods. A motor vehicle permit is required to enter each park and is not included with the camping fee rate. L The campground is located within Winton Woods, a 2,554 acre park situated in north-central Hamilton County, approximately 20 minutes north of downtown Cincinnati and 30 minutes south of the Kings Island Amusement Park and Great Wolf Lodge. The campground has 123 RV, tent sites, and 8 barebones cabins and 10 deluxe cabins. The deluxe cabins have a separate kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom. These cabins have both heat and air-conditioning. They are stocked with bed linens, towels, and kitchen supplies. There is a sleeper sofa, satellite TV and DVD player. The campground is open year-round with limited bath facilities in winter (porta-pottys).
Appearance:
The campground has paved roads and full hook-up sites were paved, some pull-through. Other sites designed for small campers and pop-ups have gravel. There are some lakeside sites. The campground is situated in an area with large pine trees that offer good shade to some of the sites. Sites closest to the front (RV sites) are not shaded. The campground is well-kept and clean. There is a camp host on site and a camp store with campground supplies and kid’s toys, snacks, etc. Firewood is stored in a shed and comes bagged for your convenience.
Rating: 1-5 lanterns (with 5 being the highest):
Activities:
There is a 156 acre lake located in the park adjacent to the campground. You can rent row boats, paddle boats, motorboats, pontoons, canoes, and kayaks. There are also bikes available for rent. The lake will only allow up to 6hp, and you can bring in your own canoes. Fishing, 18 hole disk golf, three nature trails, bridle trails, and 2.6 miles of paved trails are all available for you to enjoy during your stay. The Mill Golf Course is an 18 hole golf course located within the park. Parky’s Farm, a 100 acre educational farm with live animals, wagon and pony rides is located just across Winton Road. It is located within 10 minutes from Cincinnati Mills Mall which includes Bass Pro Shop.
Pet/Family Friendly:
The campground is pet-friendly as long as dogs are leashed and well-behaved. There was no fenced dog park and no areas to let dogs off-leash. There are good paved roads to walk the dogs and grassy sites that we prefer when camping with our dogs.
As mentioned above there are several activities for children to enjoy, however, there is no pool or putt-putt. There is a nice well-maintained playground located in the campground, in addition to others located throughout the park.
Restrooms:
There is a main bath and shower house located near the front of the campground. They were clean and well kept and nicer than many we have visited in similar state and local parks. However, the showers were timed showers and you only got approx. 5 seconds of water each time you pressed the button (highly annoying!) The showers did have separate dressing areas and were fairly spacious. There is a porta-potty in the back area of the campground, which is nice to have at night if you are camping in the back section.
Overall: We enjoy this park because it is close to home and open year-round. If you are visiting the Cincinnati area and are looking for a decent place to camp, this is a fairly good option.
How much does it cost these days to rent a ten campsite. It has been a long time since I have camped there. Use to be a very nice place to get away for the weekend.
