23403 Mynard Road
Greenwood, Nebraska 68366
PROS: Conveniently located off the highway, owners are strong supporters of the military
CONS: Highway noise, noise from nearby racetrack.
Pine Grove RV Park is located between Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska. We stayed here as a stopover on our way back home to Cincinnati. We had stayed in Cheyenne and decided Pine Grove would be a good stopover. However, we stayed two nights rather than one night. The campground hosts 127 campsites. We stayed at a full hookup, back-in site (#124). There are pull through as well as back-in sites. There is one cabin and 13 tent sites. This place is definitely big-rig friendly. We paid $37 per night after taxes and the Good Sam discount. They also accept AAA and military discounts. The camp store has an average amount of food and camping supplies and they do sell beer. Next to the camp office is the Snack Bar and Lounge. There are no fire pits. They don’t have cable, although, we were able to get about 15 channels using our antenna. Pine Grove RV Park offers Wi-Fi but only for one device. We received good customer service but were a little turned off by the abundance of rules and signs throughout the park restating the rules. Check out is 11:00 a.m.
Pine Grove was average in appearance. No frills, yet taken care of by the owners. The was lots of grass and clover on the sites, including growing up within the gravel. There were some flowerbeds and planters near the front office and showerhouses. The main road was paved and the sites were either gravel or grass. The space in between the campsites is adequate. There is only one dumpster at the front of the campground. Pine Grove is next to the I-80 so highway noise is an issue, especially at our site. It would be pretty unbearable for someone in a tent or popup.
Rating: (One to five lanterns with 5 being the highest)
Family/ Pet Friendly
Pine Grove has a variety of activities for the family. They have a decent sized pool open 11:00-7:00. There is a large playground, basketball court, shuffleboard, volleyball court, horseshoes, and a tennis court. The snack bar and lounge next to the office has a full bar, big screen TV, lounge booths, ice cream, pizza, and other snacks. The camp host who served us a few beers was super friendly.
There is a fenced-in dog area at the campground. However, it was pretty small and offered no shade. There is a bench outside of the fence. Pick-up bags are provided.
As mentioned above, this campground was just a stopover on our journey back home. It is located very near the I80 Speedway, so if you are going to be at the races it is a good place to stay. We did not have anything specific that we were planning to do or places to visit. However, since we stayed two nights as opposed to a one-night stopover, we decided to explore the city of Omaha. It’s about a 30-minute drive from Pine Grove. Omaha has an Old Market (farmers market) and a variety of specialty shops. If you like good food and craft beer, we highly recommend Upstream Brewery. Check it out. http://www.upstreambrewing.com/
Omaha has a nice park (Heartland of America Park) featuring a small lake (more like a pond) and paved trail around it. Additionally, there is the Gene Leahy Pedestrian Mall. If you are into Italian food, Old Market Spaghetti Works is a nice restaurant. http://omaha.spagworks.com/
If you like sweets, we suggest Old Market Candy Shop. They have great cannoli! http://www.oldmarketcandy.com/
Restrooms and Showers
The campground has clean bathrooms and good showers. There is one shower house centrally located in Pine Grove. In addition, there are restrooms next to the pool. The hand dryer does not work in the men’s bathroom. The water pressure was good and the water was hot. The showerhead is too low for us tall guys. The walls and the floor are tile. There is a dressing area with 6 medium-sized hooks.
