Overview
Henry Horton is a Tennessee State Park located an hour south of Nashville. The
nearest towns are Chapel Hill and Columbia. The campground is divided into five
sections: RV campground, tent campground, hammock campground, primitive
campground, and backcountry sites. We stayed in the RV campground with our 28’
travel trailer at site #32. There are 52 water/electric sites in the RV campground,
including three pull-thrus. A two-lane dump station is located as you exit the
campground.
The camp store includes novelty items as well as camp and RV supplies. Firewood is $7
per bundle (kiln-dried) and burned very well.
If you choose to camp here, be extra cautious as you drive through the campground.
There are trees all along the campground road. Traversing the park is not impossible,
however, be mindful.

Pros vs. Cons
Pros- Henry Horton is a small campground (peaceful & quiet). Plenty of shade & nature.
Cons- There are no full hook-up sites. No fenced-in dog area. The wi-fi is very
unreliable. A bit of a distance from Nashville activities.

Appearance
The campground includes paved roads throughout. It is well-maintained by the camp
hosts located at sites #30 and #51. The campsite pad is also paved. Each site has a
firepit (w/grill) and a lantern holder.

Family/Pet Friendly
A playground is located at the entrance of the campground near the camp store. It
includes a play set, swings, and a large sand area with nice toys (i.e. Tonka trucks). There is also a bird aviary with a red-tailed hawk and a barred owl. Both were injured and are housed permanently at the park.

While there is no dog park, there are plenty of trails to hike. We enjoyed hiking the Hickory Ridge Inner Loop trail and River Trail.
Be sure to check your dogs with ticks
This was an issue during the month of June when we visited.
Across the street from the campground, there is an Olympic-size pool, disc golf course,
large picnic area along the river, a restaurant, and an interpretive center. A golf course
is located adjacent to the campground.
With our camper’s antenna (w/booster), we were able to get about (10) channels from
the Nashville area.

Area Attractions
The primary reason we chose this campground is to visit President Polk’s museum
located in Columbia, Tennessee. If you choose to visit, allocate about 2 hours for the
museum and tour. Our tour guide (Dan) was excellent.
We ate at Puckett’s Restaurant in downtown Columbia and highly recommend the
Nashville Cheesesteak with beef brisket. Yum! The small town includes antique shops
and specialty shops. We also enjoyed the Nash Family Creamery in Chapel Hill. It was a cute family-friendly place for lunch and ice cream.

Restrooms
Henry Horton has two restroom/shower houses, each with three bathroom stalls and
three showers. The shower stalls include a bench and plenty of space to change. The
water pressure and hot water were very good. The camp hosts clean and maintain the
bathrooms daily.
